Trip Details:

Team members will land in Entebbe, Uganda travel approximately one hour to the guest house on the outskirts of Kampala. During the time waiting for Sudan visas to be processed the team will hold a brief clinic at a local orphanage.  Once visas are processed the team will travel back to the Entebbe airport and fly by small plane to Arua, Uganda. Additional supplies will be gathered before the final 4-5 hour trip by ground into Sudan over roads which are quite rough at times.  Team members will spend the entire time in the in Northern Sudan holding health care clinics and educational sessions.  The return trip is basically the reverse of entry with the exception of an approximate 2 hours drive from Arua to Murchison Falls Safari.

 

Trip Description:

  •  Amount of in-country travel:  Minimal—Team members will travel by ground from the Entebbe airport to the guesthouse in Kampala—an approximate 1 hour trip on nice roads. Travel to Arua, Uganda will be by small aircraft and is a one hour trip. From Arua to Kenyara, Sudan is a 3 -4 hours trip in close quarters over roads which are fairly rough at times. 
  • Sleeping arrangements:  Team members will sleep primarily in bunk beds and tents.  Two bathrooms (non-western style), are available.  Showers are taken with via solar shower.
  •  Water/Electricity-There is no running water either at the compound or at the clinics.  There are several generators which provide a limited supply of electricity in the evening. 
  •  Physical requirements:  Team members may be required to assist with loading and unloading supplies which may be heavy at times.  The temperatures hover around 90-95 degrees and can be quite humid at times, so members should be able to tolerate warm/hot conditions.

Applications for this team will be accepted until May 12, 2010.  Note that applying for a team does not guarantee acceptance.  All applicants will be notified of the status of their application no later than May 30, 2010.

**Price includes airfare from major US cities to Uganda, ground transportation in Sudan, food and lodging in Sudan, all taxes as well as visa and government fees and a team t-shirt.  The price does not include immunizations, airline luggage fees, and costs incurred outside of Sudan and Uganda.
